Chingford's favourite community theatre group

We believe there's nothing quite like amateur dramatics for bringing people together. Whether you perform, help behind the scenes or pop along to watch, CADOS is here to brighten your days.

We perform 2-3 productions a year and host regular fundraising and social events.

Who we are and what we do

We are an energetic, committed and inclusive amateur dramatics society based in Chingford, East London.

If you're interested in theatre, pop along to a rehearsal to say hello. We meet most Mondays and Wednesdays from 8pm at Mornington Hall.

There are many ways to get involved:

  • Performing on stage - acting, singing and dancing

  • Designing or operating sound and lights

  • Helping backstage - supporting with sets, props, costumes etc.

  • Helping front-of-house - serving teas, selling raffle tickets etc.

  • Helping to maintain Mornington Hall - keeping everything in good shape at our much-loved community venue

  • Being a patron member

We love to embrace new members and audiences to help develop our shared passions and sense of community. Could you be part of the CADOS family?

Our story (in brief)

CADOS is the longest-running theatre company in Chingford. We were established way back in 1945 as Chingford Arts Circle and have been entertaining audiences ever since!

As a registered charity, we educate the public in dramatic and operatic arts. Whether you choose to master theatre and performance skills yourself or just come along to watch is up to you. But neither would be possible without support from kind local people, fundraising events, grants and hall bookings.

We've welcomed thousands of members and put on hundreds of shows over the years. Why not check out a few highlights, including photos from our most productions?

We aim to put on shows in February, May and October. These are generally a play, a musical and an original or devised piece, with a pantomime every two years. We're always open to suggestions from members about possible shows to ensure we have a diverse programme each year.

Members also organise social events such as theatre trips, and fundraising events such as quizzes and concerts.

Our home: Mornington Hall

CADOS has been based at Mornington Hall in North Chingford since 2014. Our home is a special place - not just where we rehearse and perform, but a thriving community venue too.

We lease Mornington Hall from Waltham Forest council and manage it on a voluntary basis. In recent years, we've invested over £20k to develop it as an arts venue and theatre.

Mornington hall operates at the heart of the Chingford community, providing childcare, fitness classes, baby sensory, life drawing and lots more. You can also hire Mornington Hall for parties! See what else is on at our lovely community hall.
