Cheek to Cheek

Script (adapted from a story by C.G. Harris) by Marcus Scroop

Directed by Marcus Scroop and Tom Adlam

Following the success of our May 2023 'Creative Streak' programme of new writing, Marcus's short play was accepted as an entry into the Waltham Forest Festival of Theatre. The piece was lengthened and slightly recast and Tom, supported with directing this updated version. The piece is a romantic comedy that follows Ken, who takes up a dance class to help him deal death of his mother and finds love after buying a pair of dance shoes (that may or may not have been previously owned by Fred Astaire) form a local second-hand shop. Having not entered the festival for several years, we were delighted that GODA adjudicator Martin Parr recognised CADOS's work with two awards.

(Congratulations also goes Albert Templeton from Interact Youth Theatre for his role as Oil in 'Remote' who received the award for Most Promising Performer 18 and under which is named after CADOS)

In his feedback comments, Martin spoke about how gentle and heart-warming the piece was in telling the story of how someone rebuilds themselves. He commended the use of dance and music in the piece and comedy in the dance class scene.
