Following on from 2022's 'Creative Streak', this was another opportunity to encourage our members to write and direct their own original short pieces. Again the range of themes, characters and theatrical styles made for a varied selection.
These incluced:
'Hoilday' by Marcus Scroop - a short, sung-through musical which followed a group of women who cover up the death of one of their friends
'Sol' by Rosalind Zalicks - a sci-fi genre piece where a the crew of a space vessel searching for a new planet to call home find somewhere strangely familiar
'Amok Time' by Marie Kearney - an exploration of a dystopian future where deceased relatives are kept alive in android form and the ruling government changes every few months
'Carnival' by Nicole Constantinou - a surreal piece that intertwines the world of social media influencers and a vampire like presence
'Just Me' by Sue Haydon - which where a woman finds the strength to challenge the double betrayal by her husband and best friend and find independence
'The Road to Helll' by Tom Adlam - which follows a well-intentioned crossword puzzle complier who hosts a dinner party with hurtful consequences. The was also one of our entries into the Waltham Forest Festival of Theatre.

NODA review highlights
I have great respect for CADOS’s ambition to present seven original works written, directed and acted by members to their friends and families in their home, Mornington Hall. It’s worth stepping back for a moment and reflecting on the wonderful opportunity to bring these works from page to stage. Playing the pieces to five live audiences and gaining feedback from reactions and the creatives’ own reflections is something many professional writers would envy. It is a huge credit to CADOS that within their schedule of productions they are prepared to provide time and space for members to have a go and be imaginative. With six plays and one musical, it is inevitable that some landed better than others but all were characterised by much dedicated hard work, innovative ideas and support from actors and crew. Thank you for a chance to see these new works and I wish all the creative teams best fortune in their next ventures.
